The European Pride season kicked off last Saturday with the parade in Brussels. More than 70,000 marchers and another 150,000 visitors made it an insanely beautiful day.
The sun was out, of course. The colours of the rainbow shine just a little bit more when they get the attention they deserve from the warm sunlight. For one day a year, the entire centre of Brussels is the epicentre of love, with a sweltering festival atmosphere and the most beautiful people.
What makes Brussels Pride so special is that the participants and spectators reflect the diversity of the city. Young and old, queer and straight, residents and visitors, as well as extravagant queens and cool dykes, sparkly teenagers and congenial families: they are all there.
The beats on the many stages in the city centre complete the party. If the countless smiling faces make one thing clear, it is that there is a golden glow around the whole event.
